Deepfield Manual
Deepfield is a modular effects environment for building, playing and sharing custom audio effects. A patch can be as simple as an input connected to a filter, or as involved as a tempo-synchronised feedback network containing delays, pitch shifting, diffusion, control logic and a purpose-built front panel.
The important idea is that Deepfield separates the effect itself from the controls you choose to expose. The graph is the effect. The front panel is the instrument you build around it.
How to use this manual
If you mainly want to use patches, start with Part 1 and the first chapters of Part 2. If you want to build your own effects, continue into the Graph Editor and Building Patches chapters. The Module Reference is intended for looking things up rather than reading from beginning to end.
Part 1: Getting Started
- Getting Started — the basic mental model and your first sound.
- Settings — global I/O, DSP resolution, control behaviour, safety and UI preferences.
- Patch Browser — loading factory, user and submodule content.
- Interface Tour — the toolbar and the four main views.
Part 2: Operation
- Controls — knobs, selectors, fine adjustment, reset and patch controls.
- Automation and MIDI — host automation, Automation Manager and MIDI assignments.
- Layout Designer — building the front panel.
- Graph Editor — modules, pins, cables, selection and graph editing.
- Patches, Base and Variants — what gets saved, Variant scope and program recall.
- Submodules — reusable graphs inside graphs.
- Tempo, Transport and Modulation — tempo-aware controls, TimeInfo and modulation-rate processing.
